I have the Dell Axim x51v +audio +GPS

Loving it. I admit to not finding the audio companion too terribly useful anymore but that is also because I have since learned hiragana. I love that you can click on a word and find the conjugations and declensions. With the cross word search, even if you don't start out with the best word, it is easy to find.

I actually lost my first one about a week into having it and was not financially stable enough to purchase one for a long time thereafter. Once I was able to buy the complete system again not only was it at cost but Peter was able to pull up my exact specs. Now THAT is customer service.

I have been getting battery latch errors recently and Peter quickly responded. Mailing it off today, I am so glad for his experience and dedication to service.

I've been using the Dell Axim for about 6 months now, and it's made my life in Tokyo much, much easier. Thanks to the large variety of dictionaries and search options, I can't recall a word or sentence I couldn't translate. The unit takes a little bit of getting used to and the lack of physical keyboard proved to be a big drawback for me. I use japanese everyday during classes and when I don't know the word I need to find it FAST. while the touchscreen is very accurate, the on screen keyboard is very small and you can easily misspell the word you're looking for. Still, this little flaw aside, the Axim is a wonderful tool and I know I will be using it for years to come.

Also, since I'm here, happy new year 2013!

Welcome to the new JLT Users' Reviews page. All the comments prior to this have been transferred over from the old page. I'm hoping the new format can allow a bit more communication among JLT users. As always, anyone with any questions for the proprietor can contact him via the order/information form, or by mail to japanesetools at Google's lovely email service.

JLT Eijiro worth the money!: I bought JLT Eijiro about 2 years ago and currently using it on my iPhone. Excellent dictionary because of the presence of yomigana and kudos to Peter for all the hard work he has to done to add the yomigana for all the entries in Eijiro.

JLT dictionaries review: I wanted to thank you once again for your excellent Japanese-English dictionary project. The free dictionary package is excellent; with the Eijro dictionary upgrade the package is superb. They complement each other quite well. I have these running on my MacBook Pro, iPhone and Dell Axim x51v. The dictionaries are so useful and the Kanji readings you added provides a lot of extra value and utility. Online dictionaries don't come close.

JLT has a well thought out and executed solution for foreigners learning Japanese.

As highlighted on your website, the Dell Axim x51v makes an excellent Japanese-English dictionary. It is fast and the screen is excellent, really brilliant. Even in August 2012, the Axim's Kanji input outpaces all other mobile platforms I have tried. Kanji input for all iPhone and Android platforms (and OSX) is mediocre as so many common Kanji are just not recognized.

Dedicated Japanese dictionaries like the Casio EX are an option for "advanced intermediates" in my view, but they are bulky and not cheap. With the Axim, manually jumping to the readings of each kanji is unnecessary as Peter has already done that work for you.

I enjoyed reading your site and had an old Axim at home so decided to build a system at home as a DIY hobbyist. The software and hardware tweaks were difficult and took me well over 100 hours to get "right." The software tweaks require a lot of steps and take time; the hardware fix required Surface Mount Soldering (invisible to naked eye parts!) skills and could easily leave one with an expensive paperweight.

Now my Axim runs great but I am sure the JLT Axim is better optimized. The JLT Axim also runs right out of the box and has a long warranty. Unless you value your time in the $3/hour range, have good technical skills, and don't mind a lot of frustration, don't waste your time trying to build a system at home.

On another note, the Axim is still a viable tool for listening to music, watching movies, recording information as memory expansion goes to a whopping 160GB (32GB SD + 128GB CF cards, I believe). But I only use the Axim as a dictionary.

In conclusion, JLT's dictionaries and Axim x51v solutions are highly recommended for anyone interested in learning Japanese.

Best choice ever!: I highly recommend the JLT complete system! The product itself is terrific and the customer service is the best ever.

I bought the Axim 51V and it is wonderful! The EP Pocket is amazing. It makes studying so much easier. I no longer need several dictionaries just to look up one word. It is easy and so practical. It fits both my strengths and weaknesses in my level of Japanese. You won't be lost as a beginner or outgrow it later. The PDA is really useful for a lot of things as well. I am very happy with this product.

I also recommend buying the Axim from this site. Peter is extremely helpful and patient. I had no experience with a PDA and am not great at tech stuff. Peter not only gives very clear and detailed instructions, but he also is quick to answer any questions that come up later. I have never had such great customer service with an electronic product before. Really, it is like buying something from a friend.

As you can tell from all the adjectives, this is a great product! You won't regret buying one.

I can't wait to use this on the streets of Kyoto!

Thanks: I wanted to drop you a note to let you know that we are very much enjoying the dictionaries, and EBMac is working great. My husband said these are the dictionaries he's been wanting "forever." With much appreciation for all your help and patience...

Outstanding: When I first considered buying the JLT System I was concerned it would be complex to use because the written directions are so extensive; but it is easy to learn to use; very intuitive and the written instructions are outstanding.

This is a great tool. I wish I had it in the 1970's when I started learning Japanese rather than lugging Nelson's and other dictionaries around. This will be a big help in my brushing up. Every student starting out should have one!

Service has been great!

Note from Peter: The customer is discussing the JLT Complete System based on a Dell Axim X51V.
